Overall this guy is immense, might be the thickest beer i've ever had. huge and chewy, coats the mouth and flavor lingers long after each sip. ![]() Mouthfeel might be one of the biggest i've ever had. reminds me air of rusty nail, but immense. This guy is huge, licorice bomb, layers of licorice with port, oak, vanilla, with a licorice finish. pretty bad assĪroma brings forth huge oak, port, deep roasty malts, heavy licorice, slight alch in the rear stains the glass, probably the darkest head i've ever seen too. this might be the thickest looking stout i've ever seen! did i just change my oil? darkest pour. Aug 26, 2017īig want, thanks for sending her down kieth! This was truly mind blowing on complexity as it warmed up. A slow sipper from body, not from alcohol. Super rich and decadent malt complexity, with awesome balance between fruity yeast and port barrels. Overall this is an insane barrel aged imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and wine barrel flavors very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden a mildly increasing warmth, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Light carbonation and very full body with an insanely creamy, rich, silky, velvety, and slightly slick/syrupy mouthfeel that is amazing. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and wine barrel flavors with a good roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, black cherry, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, dark bread, leather, tobacco, soy sauce, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Very mild roast bitterness and wine/oak spiciness on the finish. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, black cherry, date, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, and dark bread with light notes of smoke, leather, tobacco, soy sauce, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and wine barrel notes with big strength. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, black cherry, date, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, and dark bread with light notes of smoke, leather, tobacco, soy sauce, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Minimal spotty lacing clings on the glass. Pours thick pitch black color with a small fairly dense very dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Jan 07, 2018ħ50 ml bottle into snifter Batch #2, bottled in 2/2017. This is absolutely a beer that needs to be tried. A ridiculous amount of complexity and a symphony of flavors. The wine barrel aging has taken what is probably an excellent imperial stout and made it truly exceptional. Carbonation is low but adequate for the style and the beer has a drying finish. M: This beer is thick, velvety and slightly chewy in body. Swallow is more red berries and currants, cocoa powder and milk chocolate, a little coffee, and some lingering oak and roasted malts. Slight cocoa powder note as well with a little currant. T: Taste is very port forward up front with some wine and red berries, nice chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of coffee along with some very nice oaky notes. S: Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, a little molasses like sweetness and some nice port wine notes along with a little oak. A: Poured into a snifter to a deep black beer with a very dark tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass
